Wits opening gender neutral bathrooms

Pura Mgolombane, the manager of diversity, ethics and social justice at the Wits Transformation Office, says the gender-neutral bathrooms are “a victory for social justice”.

He says these bathrooms enable people who do not subscribe to the gender binaries to use the facility of their choosing.

Female students would then have to share a space with males. But Mgolobane says they are in favour of the move.

The toilets being located in a place where people frequent, it will circumvent any kind of violence or sexism.
