Many sexual assault reports to Thuthuzela Care Centres are from children

Head of the National Prosecuting Authority’s Sexual Offences and Community Affairs Unit (SOCA), Advocate Thoko Majokweni says 55% of sexual assault reports they receive are from children.

NPA's SOCA introduced the Thuthuzela Care Centers, as a critical part of South Africa’s anti-rape strategy.

They aim to reduce secondary victimisation, improve conviction rates and reduce the cycle time for finalisation of cases.

There are currently 55 centres across the country serving communities where the incidence of rape is particularly high.

The Thuthuzela project partners with various departments and donors to provide an integrated strategy for prevention, response and support victims.
