The Friday Stand-In 2016

Tips on how to flourish in the music industry

Friday Stand-In and successful singer Lira shares advice on how to flourish personally, spiritually and financially in a challenging industry.

Life strategist Mabel Slabbert joins Lira on the line to offer tips on how to make the most out of life and career.

Slabbert says we all chase things in life because of the feeling we believe we will get once we achieve those goals.

The truth is you can have that feeling right now by changing your pattern of thinking.

Mabel Slabbert, Life Strategist

To get what you want in life my advice is always to start with your physiology. Emotion is created by motion.

Mabel Slabbert, Life Strategist

She says how you feel right now relates to how you are using your body. Changing your physical movements can pull you out of a negative mood. Change the way you are breathing, sitting or walking and it can have a major impact on taking you from a negative to a positive state of being, says Slabbert.

Lira and Mabel Slabbert say focus on your beliefs and write down a detailed vision of the life you want to have.

Use positive language. If our thoughts are not serving us, then ask the questions differently, says Slabbert.

Stop asking 'What's wrong with me' and rather ask 'What's right with me'. Pay attention to the words you repeat to yourself over and over.

Mabel Slabbert, Life Strategist

Nonto called in for advice on how to break in to the music industry as a backing singer. Lira offered some useful suggestions.

The more ready you are for something, the more opportunities will appear.

Lira, singer

Lira says she likes to surround herself with brilliant people. She says when people demonstrate professionalism, punctuality and willingness, they are welcomed in the industry. She says there is a shortage of very well prepared professional backing vocalists.

We are drawn to people who move us as artists.

Lira, singer

Mabel Slabbert says we all have 6 human needs. They are certainty, uncertainty, significance, love and connection, the need 'to grow', and finally 'giving beyond yourself'.

The last two are key to living a fulfilled life, she says.

We all have different blueprints for our lives - different beliefs and different ways of how we are going to respond to a given situation.

Mabel Slabbert, Life Strategist

Lira and her guest both agreed that no matter how different we all are, we share those 6 needs.

It all comes down to having the right frame of mind says Lira.
