'What is the weakest link in the drug problem?' Redi Tlhabi asks callers

Authorities face a daunting responsibility when it comes to tackling drug abuse, as more and more families fall apart due to the scourge of these illicit substances and the effects of addiction.

In efforts to address the crisis, the Gauteng government has identified 16 notorious drug hotspots in Johannesburg, and is channeling approximately R81-million towards eradicating drugs from these neighbourhoods.

702/Cape Talk's Redi Tlhabi gave various callers an opportunity to share their thoughts regarding the issue.

Listen to the conversation below:

This road is populated by people who sit there in hoards on the side of the road because they have nothing to do...smoking drugs.

Joan, caller in Roodepoort

Carol shared her disappointment in her 17-year-old's brother's nyaope addiction, which has seen him resorting to stealing to support his drug use.

My brother used to be a clever boy... He started doing drugs, he started stealing money...he's such a disappointment now when I look at him.
