The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) says it believes there are attempts to wipe-out its presence at mining company Northam Platinum in Limpopo, after an NUM member was gunned down at the weekend.
Six of its members have been killed since last year, and NUM national spokesperson Livhuwani Mammburu says these have been deliberate attacks.
We think that there is a strategy to annihilate the NUM at the mine.— Livhuwani Mammburu, NUM national spokersperson
According to Mammburu, no arrests have been made for any of the multiple killings.
He claims that NUM members have not returned to work this week, fearing for their lives.
The killers are still at large and they blame the police for not doing enough to arrest those perpetrators.— Livhuwani Mammburu, NUM national spokersperson
Mammburu explains that NUM remains the majority union at Northam Platinum.
