'Yeoville is like having Africa in South Africa', says diaspora group chair

Chairperson of the Africa Diaspora Forum Marc Gbaffou says that the community of Yeoville is free of xenophobia, despite reports of tension between South Africans and foreign nationals.

Gbaffou has urged the City of Johannesburg to investigate claims that migrants have hijacked buildings in Yeoville.

He says that political leadership is needed in the area to maintain stability and avoid anarchy.

Gbaffou claims that Yeoville residents rejected xenophobic violence after the 2008 attacks.

He proudly describes the area as a melting pot of diverse nationalities on the continent.

Yeoville is like you're having Africa in South Africa. It's so vibrant to be in this area.

Marc Gbaffou, Africa Diaspora Forum Chairperson
