10 June 2016 9:30 AM

Jazz Epistles concert celebrates June 16 uprisings and recounts South Africa's history through music.

South African music lovers will be treated to a night to remember at the reunion of legendary jazz group, the Jazz Epistles. The distinguished trio will perform together for the first time in over 50 years

Jonas Gwangwa, Hugh Masekela and Adbullah Ibrahim will perform at Emperor's Palace on 15th and 16th June, in celebration of the 40 year anniversary of the June 16 student uprisings of 1976.

702's John Robbie spoke to him about what what's in store for jazz lovers and fans at this legendary performance.

Listen to the interview below:

I'm looking forward to it because 50 years is a long time. I haven't had a chance to perform with Adbullah since then in the 50s.

Jonas Gwangwa, former member of The Jazz Epistles

The group introduced a groundbreaking sound to South Africa, which saw them perform at various clubs in Cape Town and Johannesburg, before some members were sent into exile.

No I'm not nervous, I'm just wondering if I'll be able to deliver like I used to.
