Watch free screenings of Sarafina! across SA this Youth Day

This Youth Day, Ster-Kinekor will be hosting free screenings of the iconic Sarafina! at cinemas across the country to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Soweto Uprisings in 1996.

Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis – and are only available at the participating cinemas from 9.30am on June 16.

The screenings will be held at 12pm at the following cinemas:

Western Cape

Blue Route, Eikestad, Parow, Tygervalley

Gauteng

Brooklyn, Carlton, Eastgate, East Rand, Kolonnade, Maponya Mall, Newtown, Sandton, Southgate, Sterland

North Cape

Mooirivier

Sarafina! was released in 1992 and centres around students involved in the Soweto uprising, in opposition to the implementation of Afrikaans as the language of instruction in schools.

Sarafina! – originally a Broadway musical – stars Leleti Kumalo, Whoopi Goldberg and Miriam Makeba.
