Victims of Guptagate to sue, Hawks suspension saga continues, Davos kicks off

Defamation law suit to come following dropping of Guptagate charges:

National Secretary of the South African National Defence Union, Advocate Pikkie Greeff says they will be pursing further legal action after all charges against Lieutenant Colonel Stephan van Zyl and Lieutenant Colonel Christine Anderson were withdrawn by the government for the Guptagate scandal:

We are definitely going to sue; we're going to sue for defamation, we're going to sue for damage to Van Zyl's career. That man is in his mid-thirties, he's somewhat of a legend in the SANDF and his career has been irreparably damaged, their reputations and good name have been irreparably damaged and someone must make good on the damage. In this process, we intend also including the Justice Cluster with the findings and allegations against Anderson and we will definitely be looking at subpoenaing all of the ministers and all the people who made findings in the investigations to come and explain themselves.

Sibiya Hawks suspension under the spotlight:

EWN Correspondent Govan Whittles on this story: Acting Head of the Hawks Mthandazo Ntlemeza has rejected Shadrack Sibiya's reasons why he should remain in office. EWN has learnt that Ntlemeza has formally placed the Gauteng Hawks head on suspension. Ntlemeza's decision to suspend Sibiya comes in the wake of witness statements that directly implicate him in the illegal rendition of four Zimbabwean men in 2010. It’s not yet clear if Sibiya will challenge the latest suspension in court. Meanwhile, suspended Hawks head Anwa Dramat has also been implicated in the illegal rendition case, which is said to have led to his suspension by Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko last month.

Zuma and SA delegation expected to focus on NDP at Davos:

The annual World Economic Forum is kicking today and is set to take place over the next four days and South Africa is expected to have a strong focus on highlighting the major points of the National Development Plan (NDP).
