A scam that purports to come from the National Department of Health is defrauding local businesses.
The scam notifies businesses that they have been awarded contracts to deliver goods to the department.
702's John Robbie chatted to spokesperson of National Department of Health, Joe Maila, on what to look out for in the fraudulent documents.
Listen to the interview below:
There is a procurement of this and other things we want, and therefore, they must deliver the items to us and they will get paid.— Joe Maila, Department of Health Spokesperson
Maila said people need to look out for the following details:
- the email address listed is signed with a '.co.za' domain, while the Department of Health's legitimate email domain is signed as '.gov.za'
- the name of the Department is signed as 'Dep of Health', while the legitimate one is written as 'Department of Health'.
You need to look at that document very closely. The document looks very legit but at a glance, these are one of two other problems.— Joe Maila, Department of Health Spokesperson
