Oscar Pistorius stands in front of courtroom on his stumps to show vulnerability

The defence team has argued that Oscar Pistorius was a vulnerable man on the night he murdered Reeva Steenkamp.

For the first time during his trial, the Paralympian stood in front of the court without his prosthetic legs.

Advocate Barry Roux has been arguing for mitigation of sentence at the High Court in Pretoria.

Pistorius came out to demonstrate to court officials how powerless he felt when he opened fire on 14 February 2013, reports EWN's Gia Nicolaides.

According to Nicolaides, Pistorius appeared embarrassed and looked as if he was in pain.

Barry Roux said that Oscar Pistorius was embarrassed to do this, but he insisted.

After returning to the dock, Roux explained to the court that Pistorius also felt helpless, anxious and fearful when he shot at Steenkamp.
