How young SA YouTube sensation Caspar Lee rose to fame

South African YouTube star Caspar Lee has over 6 million followers online at the age of 22.

When he was 15, he had less than 100 followers on his page, and now he profiles some of the biggest celebrities and brands in the world.

However, it wasn't always easy for him growing up. Diagnosed with tourette syndrome, the young man struggled at school and was seen as disruptive.

He says that he used sport and technology as an outlet to release the stress of his condition.

I spent a lot of time on my computer, and during that time I discovered YouTube.

Caspar Lee, YouTube personality

After uploading videos for 2 years, Caspar began receiving some recognition when he turned 18.

He says that he collaborated with other online personalities to grow his fanbase to what it is today.

The 22-year-old has made a business out of his humour, and can afford to sustain himself in London and fund his own video production.

His video channel has evolved from pranks, and grown to celebrity interviews and diverse features.

Caspar plans to change the format of his videos into a late night talk show platform and has written a book about his journey.
