There is a great turn out at the national Youth Day celebrations at Orlando Stadium, where South Africans are commemorating the youth of 1976 Soweto Uprising.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has commended the current youth for not being passive, reports EWN's Dineo Bendile.
She says that it's the role of the youth to keep the leaders thinking, on their toes and aware of issues they should be addressing. She's happy to see the engagement.— Dineo Bendile, EWN reporter
Meanwhile, Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande urged the youth to emulate the class of '76 and refrain from destroying property.
Bendile says that the stadium has been a vision of song, dance and other entertainment.
It's been a morning of cheering and dancing. All the people here are still in high spirits as they wait for the programme to proceed.— Dineo Bendile, EWN reporter
Many attendees are waiting in anticipation for President Jacob Zuma to address the event.
