#TshwaneUnrest: Chaos, fire and protests

The African National Congress’s (ANC) decision to put forward Thoko Didiza as its mayoral candidate for Tshwane sparked outrage and chaos in the city.

Putco confirmed to Eyewitness News that two of their buses were burnt and at least 20 other buses from another service were also torched during protests in Mamelodi.

There were also reports of Stanza Bopape Clinic in Mamelodi East being on fire.

In Attridgeville residents burnt tyres and blockaded Maunde road. A heavy police presence then followed.

Current Tshwane Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa then condemned the violence saying “no amount of displeasure can warrant this destruction… “

Buses were torched and streets were blocked with rubble and burning tyres in Tshwane over the announce of Didiza as mayoral candidate.
