#TshwaneUnrest: 19 buses torched in Mamelodi

Autopax bus company has confirmed that at least 19 of its buses were torched overnight during violent protests in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria.

Protests have spread across Tshwane, as tensions over ANC mayoral candidate selections for the country's capital continue.

Autopax acting CEO Bongani Kupe estimates that the damage amounts to nearly R28 million.

For us, these are our tools of trade. We love these buses, we're passionate about them... Providing transport runs through our blood... We are presently mourning.

Bongani Kupe, acting CEO of Autopax

Autopax transports almost 500 000 commuters on its fleet daily and the service has been suspended until further notice.
