The 702 Truck of Love with Spar

702 Truck of Love with Spar rolls into Daveyton

Rose Dabula saw a need for an old age home in her area, after seeing many older persons suffering silently in the hands of their families and friends.

Some were homeless, destitute, neglected - many were frail, bedridden - most were emotionally, physically and financially vulnerable and needy.

The Daveyton Home for the Aged grew from Mrs Dabula's vision as a community-based, non-profit organisation. They provide nutritional support, companionship and recreational activities for older persons in the Daveyton community. There is also a day-care facility for older persons although they charge a fee for this service. When necessary, sick people are transported to the closest clinic to receive medical care and treatment.

The Home provides its 24 residents (and other elderly residents attending the "day care") with three meals a day and a snack. The Home also gives away food parcels every Friday from the vegetables grown in their garden. There is a monthly forum for older persons and they do a variety of crafts. The society also assists people with applications for social grants before referring them to the relevant departments.
