Brexit referendum deadline: Will the UK stay, or will it go?

The referendum being held on Thursday on whether the United Kingdom will depart from the European Union (EU) will have implications for global financial markets.

According to Executive Chair of Pan African Investment and Research Services, Dr Iraj Adebian, the possible exit by the world economic power will have a domino effect on South Africa.

702's John Robbie spoke to him regarding the possible outcomes and implications.

Listen to the interview below:

All the negativity that is in the market will be reversed... We will see a bit of an uptake in the financial markets, which is a good thing.

Dr Iraj Adebian, Executive Chair of Pan African Investment and Research Services

Adebian said Britain would stay on different terms, even if they chose not to leave the EU.

The pound would depreciate in anticipation of the negative impact, not immediately but in the next 3 to 5 years.

Dr Iraj Abedian, Executive Chair of Pan African Investment and Research Services

Anything that creates volatility in the global economy and by definition reduces the rate of growth of the global economy is very bad for South Africa.
