The Book Show: Must-read novels about Africa

The winner of the Alan Paton Award is due to be announced on 25 June. This literary award is now in its 27th year.

Jenny Crwys-Williams overviews the books short-listed for the award and predicts who could be this years winner.

Here is Jenny's prediction to win the 2016 Alan Paton Award below:

PAPWA, GOLF’S LOST LEGEND BY MAXINE CASE (Kwela)

It is a little known story of one South Africa golfer, Sewsunker “Papwa” Segolum, the South African child golf-prodigy of Indian descent, who was discriminated against during apartheid because of the colour of his skin.

Weather you are a golf lover or not, this is a book about the effects of apartheid and the restrictive laws that prohibited millions of South Africans from experiencing their potential.

Crwys-Williams also highlighted a range of novles written about Africa, which address the topic of apartheid and the violence which accompanied it.
