Parks Tau: ANC confident of winning City of Joburg at 2016 polls

City of Joburg Mayor, Parks Tau, says that he is confident of an outright win at the 2016 polls on 3 August.

This weekend, the African National Congress (ANC) celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Freedom Charter and launched the Joburg Manifesto for the 2016 local government elections.

702's John Robbie spoke to him regarding their policy interventions that will take the party forward. Listeners also got a glimpse into Tau's family life, where he spoke of how proud he was of his son who has joined an anti drug campaign in Eldorado Park. Tau said his son, who was in rehab, is now an activist and he's very proud of him.

Tau insisted the governing party's internal report suggests that they are in a strong position to continue to be a majority party in Johannesburg.

Listen to the interview below:

On the basis of our track record and the work that we're doing, we're confident that the ANC will win the City of Joburg.

Tau emphasised the importance of peaceful and responsible electioneering by political parties, who encourage communities to act unlawfully.

We continue to say to political parties that populism and taking illegal actions doesn't help in an election.
