Public Protector list of nominees released from Parliament

EWN Parliamentary correspondent Gaye Davis attended the press briefing at parliament where the nominations and people who have applied for the position of Public Protector have been announced by the Ad Hoc Parliamentary Committee tasked with this responsibility.

This as the seven year non-renewable term of Thuli Madonsela draws to an end.

Davis says 59 names have been announced and will be made available on the Parliamentary website along with the nominees curriculum vitae.

Among the list are the already publicised candidate Judge Siraj Desai. Also named is Nick (Fink) Haysom who was legal adviser to President Nelson Mandela. Advocate Willie Hofmeyer has accepted his nomination. Also on the list is Advocate Dali Mfofu, chairperson of the EFF.

Other people were put forward, but have either declined nomination or could not be reached by the deadline. These are the 59 names of those contacted and who have accepted nomination for the position.
