The Sunday Times literary award winners: Critical issue of rape in the spotlight

The winners of the Sunday Times Literary Awards were announced on Saturday night.

Pumla Dineo Gqola scooped the Alan Paton Award (non-fiction) for her book Rape, a South African Nightmare, while Nkosinathi Sithole walked off with the Barry Ronge Fiction Prize for his debut novel Hunger Eats a Man.

Jenny Crwys-Williams spoke to both authors to find out how it feels to win the most prestigious literary awards in South Africa.

The authors each received prize money of R100 000.
