Now you can find out what Google has been tracking about your online activity.

You can now see what Google has been tracking about your online activity (and delete it) using the My Activity tool.

I can tell you that I had searched for a Gluhwein recipe on 30 June 2010 after requesting the info from that month.

You can see what you searched for, what videos you watched, where you have been, in fact a whole lot of stuff.

The information you can search about your online activity going back years.

It may come as a bit of a surprise if you did not know all of the info was being kept, but it does make sense for improving your future searches and for Google to better show you ads you are likely to use.

The real value though is that some of it would not be useful and now you can delete any or all of the tracks you leave.

Google tracks where you have been and even adds the name of the place they think you visited. Pic: Google

Having such a comprehensive record could help should someone need to find you in an emergency (and they had access to your account) or it could be very bad if someone you did not want to have the information managed to get access (which is why having a good password is so important).

Either way, it is good the control is back in your hands. Google and most other online companies work hard to make the devices you use and your online experience as smooth and easy as possible, but you should be aware of what your share and what is being tracked for your own peace of mind.

Listening back to your voice searches is weird and means your phone is always listening. Pic: Google

Even your voice search audio is stored, which helps the system understand how you speak and make less mistakes when you use it.

Share this article with all those you think would appreciate or need a reality check about the tracks they leave online.
