Some SABC journos barred from leaving building to picket - reports

EWN understands that some SABC staffers in Johannesburg were allegedly prohibited from joining the picket outside their offices, Gia Nicolaides reports.

Two pickets are taking place outside the SABC's offices, both in Cape Town and Johannesburg today.

Journalists have shown support for their SABC colleagues, who are demanding an end to censorship and dictatorial leadership at the public broadcaster.

Zwelinzima Vavi came out saying he was trying to get a hold of the journalist who had been locked inside the building... the entrance has been closed of and there are some who haven'e been able to join the demonstration.

A group of representatives, including trade unionist Zwelinzima Vavi , will meet with SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng, and the demonstration will end off at Constitutional Hill.

Suspended senior SABC journalists Busisiwe Ntuli, Krivani Pillay and Jacques Steenkamp came out to thank members of the media fraternity for the show of solidarity, as they're expected to face disciplinary action next week.

At the same time, the South African National Editors Forum (Sanef) says it is deeply disturbing that Motsoeneng continues to censor and suspend staffers who are fighting for media freedom.
