Banker turned winemaker Mphumeleli Ndlangisa on why he made the jump

Banker turned wine maker Mphumeleli Ndlangisa’s move from banking to wine making was initially met with skepticism from his parents but he has continued to pursue his dream.

Ndlangisa is the founder of Magna Carta Wines, a natural wine label based in Stellenbosch.

Sharing some of the risks involved he says “Wine making is one of the most capital intensive business's, so you don’t actually see any money while the wine is maturing and its sitting in oak. So it wasn't a well-received decision initially but I think now, which is about three years later, it’s starting to make a bit more sense.”

He says it’s only natural to feel anxious at the start of any business.

“I gave myself about five years which is sort of the honey moon stage when you think about any business, and we are about two years from even reaching that at the moment. So we are not out of the clear but I am enjoying the journey and I’m so glad that I actually took the jump.”
