Santaco to investigate whether Mall of Africa shooting was taxi-related

It has yet to be confirmed if taxi violence was involved in the most recent shooting near Gauteng's Mall of Africa.

Two people were shot and killed at the taxi rank in Midrand on Sunday, and no arrests have yet been made.

The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) will investigate whether the incident was taxi-related.

In May, three people were shot and wounded in apparent taxi violence at the mall over route disputes.

Regional Santaco chair, Ralph Jones says the association has met with Gauteng Premier David Makhura and other officials to address operating licences and route disputes.

According to Jones, government should also be held accountable for the confusion and alleged corruption claims surrounding the taxi operating licenses.
