Chief Mandla Mandela says his grandfather, Former President Nelson Mandela, first belongs to his family, then South Africa and the world.

But politically, and we insist on this as the family, Madiba belongs to the African National Congress.

Members of the Mandela family have accused the Democratic Alliance (DA) of abusing the late statesman's name.

They are demanding that the party immediately withdraw its online election advert featuring Madiba’s voice.

We have no problem with the use of Madiba’s voice or quotations, like a certain radio station has done for Mandela Month.

But when you are doing a political campaign being an opposition party that Madiba did not belong to, we find it very offensive as a family. And we want to insist that the DA must withdraw that advert.

Mandela says they are consulting as a family, with the IEC and advertising agency to file a complaint against the DA.
