ANC chief whip says people of South Africa have a right to press freedom

6 July 2016 7:51 AM

ANC chief whip, Jackson Mthembu, has slammed what he calls a lack of leadership at the SABC.

African National Congress chief whip, Jackson Mthembu, says the SABC need to serve its mandate and deliver the truth to the public.

Mthembu denies reports that the ruling part has an influence over new developments at the SABC.

In May, the SABC implemented a new editorial policy, to not show violent images during protests.

The chief whip has slammed what he calls a lack of leadership at the SABC, saying South Africans deserve to know the truth.

The public broadcaster is supposed to bring to people everything that happened in South Africa. You can’t bring a censored story.

Mthembu says the ANC is planning to meet with the minister of communications to discuss the matter.

The issue we are calling the minister to discuss with us, we cannot have the SABC that says to the people of South Africa there are certain things that you can hear from us, and cannot hear from us.
