Zimbabweans have embarked on civic action against the socio-economic and political challenges facing the country.
Citizens are displeased with recent laws on cross-border trade, as well as continued economic hardships and alleged mismanagement by government.
Researcher, Dr Pedzisai Ruhanya, says there is very little activity in the capital of Harare, indicating that the stay away has been a success.

He says protesters have also barricaded some roads to force others to join in the shut down, involving workers from both the formal and informal sector.
According to Ruhanya, the cities of Kwekwe and Bulawayo have also joined the mass mobilisation.
