Entrepreneur Corner: From mine worker to owner of mine services company

Musa Tshabalala began his career in mining as an employee, working as a shift boss. He first went underground in 1999, at Goldfields mining company.

he decided to complete three years’ worth of in-service training and received his blasting certificate.

Tshabalala went on to become the founder and managing director of Nedtex 217, a full-spectrum mining services company.

His company’s offering includes surface exploration, underground drilling, grouting, and geotechnical engineering.

The company employs 27 people and has operations in Burgersford and Lydenburg, both in Mpumalanga and in Dundee, Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Nedtex 217 boasts long-term contracts with SA’s leading mining companies including Goldfields, Anglo Platinum, Implats and Lonmin among others.

I worked my way up as a miner, shift bossing, so I've been blasting in the mines, taking out the mine ore, and from there I grew to become a rock engineer.

His passion and involvement in all areas of the industry helped him grow and develop to the point where he was able to begin his own company.

It helped a lot. that is what gave me exposure and a vast knowledge of mining.
