MPs meet to shortlist 10 Public Protector candidates

A special committee has gathered in Parliament to discuss the criteria for shortlisting Public Protector candidates.

The committee is expected to emerge with a shortlist of candidates to be interviewed by the end of Wednesday, reports EWN's Rahima Essop.

Shortlisting will begin this afternoon and the committee has decided on finalising 10 candidates.

Essop explains that shortlist interviews are scheduled to take place on 11 August.

The committee members have compiled the list of candidates, their CV's and dossiers from NGO Corruption Watch.

Before narrowing down the list of candidates, the committee will have to decide what criteria to use and also the number of people that will be shortlisted.

Essop says the committee will assess candidates on character, skills, knowledge, experience and other categories.
