Election poll tracker backs predictions of future coalitions in the metros

A new eNCA election tracker is coming up with some interesting forecasts for the upcoming municipal elections, tracking how the various parties are doing in the build up.

The new update shows the DA sitting on 35% in Johannesburg, with the ANC on 31% and the EFF on 9%. And it also suggests the DA is ahead in Tshwane and Nelson Mandela Bay.

Paul Berkowitz, director at Edgis, a data mapping company joins Stephen Grootes to discuss what goes into conducting reliable pre-election polls.

Berkowitz says it's more difficult than people think. The traditional door to door method is costly.

He says the eNCA poll is useful as it is produced weekly, and results can be tracked week by week.

But there are still about 25% in the metros concerned who have not plumped for either the DA, ANC or EFF, so they could be undecided. And that 25% is enough to push the DA or the ANC over the finish line.

Berkowitz predicts coalitions in the Nelson Mandela Bay and Tshwana constituencies.
