High costs of finding employment hinder SA's youth from attending interviews

Youth make up the largest number of South Africa's high unemployment figures. Yet a growing number of young people are discouraged from applying for jobs as they struggle to afford the high costs involved, like transport to get to interviews.

702/Cape Talk's Redi Tlhabi spoke to researcher at the Centre for Social Development in Africa, Zoheb Kahn, about avenues that both prospective employers and jobseekers should consider.

His research looked the experiences of employed and unemployed youth and jobseeking (aged between 18 and 25 years) in South Africa's 5 provinces.

Zoheb argued that when prospective employers request interviews with candidates, should consider providing transport allowance.
