The Super Bowl is the final of the premier American Football tournament in the US. It holds the record for largest US TV audience from 2011 with 111 million viewers tuning in. As a result it also has some of the most expensive advertising rates with an average 30 second spot costing R46 million. To justify that enormous cost you get to see some of the most expensive and creative ads of the year.
Here are three from the ads that will flight this year. Many have already got millions of views.
A perfect time to sell beer to beer drinkers. Budweiser will flight more than one ad during the match, but this sentimental ad about good friends uses #BestBuds to tug at your heart strings. Over 6 million views says it is working.
If it is not sentimental it should be funny. BMW shows off their new high tech car by using a clip from 1994 when the Internet was relatively unknown. A great way to make a point about new technology that might not make a lot of sense now. 4,5 million views and counting.
T-Mobile is a cellphone company that is happy for you to hang on to the data you bought and not take it away from you. They signed up Kim Kardashian to tell you that and will then spend over R46 million to broadcast it. You might ask why they would take the data you bought away from you in the first place but that is another story. It does not showcase a new product; it does not give you anything you did not actually have before and it features someone that is famous for being famous. Despite that, it is funny and the most popular of the three with over 6,3 million views.
And if you must know the match will be between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.
