'Wonder Boy for President' opens in cinemas nationwide

29 July 2016 11:26 AM

Funnyman Kagiso Lediga put together a humourous take on SA politics ahead of elections. The result? A hilarious mockumentary film.

Comedian and Actor Kagiso Lediga has created a mockumentary film commenting on the state of politics in South Africa.

It took the funnyman four years to put the production together, with a filming journey that began at the ANC's 2012 National Elective Conference in Mangaung,Free State.

Fast-forward to 2016, as South Africans prepare to take to the polls for local elections, the spoof film is set to hit big screens across the country.

Lediga plays the role of 'Wonder Boy', a political candidate from the Eastern Cape embroiled in some dubious party dynamics.

He says the film offers comic relief from all the "desperate politicking" in the country.

According to Lediga, comedians have "liberating" creative licences to make bold statements about politics in South Africa.

He says that although the film was created on a small budged, it manages to stretch resources and show authentic behind-the-scenes action involving political heavyweights such as Jacob Zuma.

Wonder Boy is opening in Cinemas nationwide tonight - 29 July.
