Executive falls prey to date rape drug

Executive director of the Free Market Foundation, Leon Louw has told of his harrowing experience after being handed a glass of wine laced with the date rape drug.

The drink was intended for a woman seated next to him at the closing banquet of an international conference last week. The woman politely passed the drink to him which was bought for her by a man flirting with her. She passed it to Louw without the man seeing.

It was a big conference with 2 500 guests and the characterisation of people there was to discuss freedom, rule of law and civil liberties.

Many of them you could call religious and conservative. Had the woman for whom it (the drug) was meant taken it, she would have been raped that night.

Leon Louw

I assumed I was having a severe stroke... and though it best I actually die. It was pretty scary stuff.

Leon Louw

Listen to Louw recount his ordeal to John Robbie, warning how everyone, men and women, are potential victims.
