Author Lauren Beukes collaborates with South African children for her new book

Award-winning author Lauren Beukes is two months away from publishing her latest book. And it is certainly different from what her readers have come to expect of her writing.

Beukes is best known for her darker adult books “The Shining Girls” and “Broken Monsters”.

She is currently working on a project in collaboration with Bostik to allow South African children an opportunity to bring to life the likeable monstrous characters in her book.

She delves into the land of "Unbelievia" by featuring funny characters such as break-dancing dinosaurs, carrot-juice-slurping vampire bunnies or octodragon moose.

Bostik approached me and asked me if i would like to do a kids project because they think I would be the perfect writer for it. They wanted me to create a bunch of beasties that they could give to kids to design...

Lauren Beukes, award-winning author

Beukes says she welcomed the challenge and decided to do the writing in rhyme. She wrote a description of twenty beasties that children can easily draw and glue together. She says the most creative designs chosen from children will form part of her latest book.

I am collaborating with kids which is super fun. I am really excited.
