Polling data suggests DA could secure outright win in Nelson Mandela Bay

DA mayoral candidate for Nelson Mandela Bay, Athol Trollip is confident that he will win in the hotly contested metro, as polling data suggests the official opposition could secure the municipality outright.

After a year of campaigning in the area, Trollip says that the party is pegged for success.

It's an enormous fight. That is why the DA has fought the longest ever campaign in a local government election in Nelson Mandela Bay.

According to Trollip, the ANC-led administration has deepened inequality, unemployment and corruption in the metro.

He adds that the ANC has stopped debating the DA on service delivery issues, and instead uses the race card in its rhetoric.

Meanwhile, ANC mayoral committee member Rory Riordan says that mayoral candidate Danny Jordaan isn't going anywhere.

Despite polls suggesting that ANC loyalty is down to 28% in the metro, Riordan insists that "it's nothing like that on the ground."

He says that voting blocks are racially divided into traditionally white areas, black township spaces and the coloured community.

According to Riordan, the municipalities finances are stable, audit reports are clean, and credit ratings positive under the leadership of the ANC.
