Shining the light on Animal Welfare Organisations

Pippa Hudson interviewed two representatives animal welfare organisations, to find out about the kind of work they do, and what support they need.

Pawfriends is a registered animal rescue NPO which helps alleviate the neglect and abuse of animals in impoverished areas.

They operate an outreach programme in the Westlake community and help pet-owners with everything from feeding and deworming to sterilisation of their pets.

THE ARK, or Uitsig Animal Rescue Centre, started off when a vet's receptionist rescued a single dog – that was back in 2009, and since then The AArk has blossomed into a sanctuary for over 500 dogs, 100 cats, pigs, poultry, some birds, horses, and even a donkey. The Ark recently moved to Melkbosstrand, to a 40 hectare property.
