Pawfriends is a registered animal rescue NPO which helps alleviate the neglect and abuse of animals in impoverished areas.

They operate an outreach programme in the Westlake community and help pet-owners with everything from feeding and deworming to sterilisation of their pets.

THE ARK, or Uitsig Animal Rescue Centre, started off when a vet's receptionist rescued a single dog – that was back in 2009, and since then The AArk has blossomed into a sanctuary for over 500 dogs, 100 cats, pigs, poultry, some birds, horses, and even a donkey. The Ark recently moved to Melkbosstrand, to a 40 hectare property.
