Lions suffer 'big loss' as Whitley ruled out for Highlanders clash

Warren Whiteley has been taken off the Lions line-up on Saturday for their Super Rugby semifinal against the Highlanders.

Whiteley has been ruled out of the game with a calf injury, and Supersport analyst Kaunda Ntunja says it will be a big loss for the team.

At the same time, Ntunja says that it may be a great opportunity for Ruan Ackermann to prove himself as he starts at 8th man in his place.

He predicts that the rest of the team will come out in strong form, as history shows the Highlanders have never defeated the Lions at Ellis Park.

He adds that jetlag and squad exhaustion, caused by intense international travel, may give the Lions a leg up.

The match kicks off at 3pm on Saturday.
