IEC assures voters of seamless processes at voting stations

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has assured the public of seamless processes after voting stations opened for special voters on Monday.

South Africans will head to the polls on August 3, 2016 to elect their preferred candidates and political parties for the local government elections.

702's John Robbie spoke to Chief Electoral Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission, Mosotho Moepya, about how voting processes will be conducted.

He also confirmed that an email circulating that ballot papers already marked with votes towards the African National Congress (ANC) is a hoax.

Listen to the interview below:

Moepya urged South Africans to visit the Department of Home Affairs officers to apply for temporary identity documents, as no other form of identification will be accepted.

Home Affairs will be open from 8am until 6pm. They are available and they will help you get your temporary identification.

Mosotho Moepya, IEC Chief Electoral Officer

Voters should text their identity numbers to '41082' to confirm their voting status.
