Political parties are monitoring operations at various voting districts across the country, after IEC Chairperson Glen Mashinini announced some incidents.
Mashinini says security officials have been deployed to various voting stations after isolated reports of unrest and extreme weather conditions affecting voting.
ANC Deputy Secretary General Jessie Duarte says the IEC has done a great job so far, adding that the ruling party is optimistic about the outcome of today's election.
Duarte explains that the ANC has provided transport to residents in rural areas such Eastern Cape and Free State.
I feel confident that the ANC is going to do extremely well in all the metros. We're looking forward to tomorrow.— Jessie Duarte, ANC Deputy Secretary General
Meanwhile, DA leader Mmusi Maimane has commended the IEC for facilitating a fairly smooth voting process.
He has urged South Africans to contribute towards peaceful and democratic elections, free of political intimidation.
Maimane says that over 1 000 DA volunteers have been deployed across the country to monitor the situation at voting stations.
