DA claims victory in Nelson Mandela Bay

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has come in for some criticism for claiming victory in Nelson Mandela Bay this evening with 10 percent of the vote still outstanding.

The DA says early projections show the party will clinch about 46% of votes at Nelson Mandela Bay.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane says that will make it the biggest party in that metro.

Maimane says work will now begin to lobby smaller parties during coalition talks.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) confirmed the final results for that metro will be out this evening.

But not everybody is happy, with ANC general secretary Gwede Mantashe saying that parties should not announce results as that is the work of the IEC.
