Presumptive mayor for Nelson Mandela Bay, Athol Trollip says the DA has met with various political parties to discuss a potential coalition.
Trollip explains that he will decide which coalition partners he will select once the official and final IEC election results have been declared.
We're just waiting for the final results to see how many seats we need and how many councillors we need from other parties to form this coalition.— Athol Trollip, Presumptive mayor for Nelson Mandela Bay
The DA has the highest number of votes in the metro, but does not have an outright majority. As such they will have to collaborate with other parties to run the municipality.
Trollip admits that the DA has approached UDM President Bantu Holomisa to consider a coalition, in addition to other parties such as Cope, AIC, ACDP and EFF.
Trollip says the DA is looking for collaborations with parties that share similar values, adding that EFF leader Julius Malema didn't seem too eager.
We'll consider our options and see exactly how many partners we need to get into government and press on.— thol Trollip, Presumptive mayor for Nelson Mandela Bay
