Top Google search words around elections

As elections got underway in South Africa, people took to Google to find out what was happening around elections. Here are some words that were Googled most frequently.

According to Head of Communications and Public Affairs for Google South Africa, Mich Atagana, '2016 local government elections' trended nine times between Monday and Tuesday. The same wording trended nine times again, between Wednesday and Thursday, as people continued searching for more information around elections.

Post elections, Atagana says people were searching for the IFP and she reckons it is because the party suddenly made a come and many may not know much about it.

They were not many searches on other parties, she says. '

Election results' also stood out post elections, searched 500 000 times.

From Thursday, Nelson Mandela Bay and news24 elections were among the search words that popped up and dropped off the charts more than once.
