Flossing is effective but you should use the right floss, says prosthodontist

Prosthodontist and South African Dental Association chairperson, Dr. Yvette Solomons, says flossing should be part of oral hygiene routine.

The article published by The Guardian suggests that there is no substantial evidence that flossing is effective. But Solomons disagrees, saying flossing is important.

Speaking on Night Talk with Gugu Mhlungu and Sizwe Dlhomo, Solomons advised listeners on oral hygiene.

The floss is the most efficient in passing in between the teeth, which means it actually cleans the entire surface. You can't do that with paper, otherwise the paper get stuck.

If you are going to use a toothpick, you are only going to clean that little triangle between the teeth.
