DA and UDM confirm coalition talks underway with opposition and ANC

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has confirmed that it has met with most opposition parties they are interested in forming coalitions with since they obtained significant wins in at the 2016 local government elections recently.

South Africa's leading opposition party claimed victory over the country's liberation party African National Congress (ANC) in Nelson Mandela Bay and City of Tshwane, signalling a new political landscape for South Africa since the 1994 era.

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) led by Bantu Holomisa, also confirmed separate talks with the ANC and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in various areas.

702's Nikiwe Bikitsha (standing in for John Robbie) spoke to the DA's Federal Chairperson, James Selfe, regarding the latest developments in coalition talks.

He said that are areas that are "vital" to not negotiate, but also that there are some areas where they are willing to compromise.

Listen to the interview below:

There are broad points of departure, and what we're doing today is having 3 sets of meetings at which we hope to become more specific about what it is exactly what we want to achieve in those metropolitan councils.

Bikitsha also spoke to Holomisa regarding recent developments in possible coalition talks with the governing party, the official opposition of the country and the red berets.
