Suspended SARS No. 2 secured job for girlfriend - amaBhungane

A report on the Daily Maverick website from the amaBhungane Centre for Investigative Journalism suggests that suspended Deputy Head of Sars Jonas Makwakwa allegedly used his influence to get a top job for his girlfriend Kelly-Ann Elskie.

Makwakwa was suspended by Sars after it was found that unusual payments amounting R1.2 million of money were put into his bank accounts between 2010 and 2016.

Midday Report's Stephen Grootes spoke to Marianne Thamm, Daily Maverick assistant editor about the allegations.

It's been claimed that he shifted Kelly-Ann Elskie, his girlfriend and mother of his two children, from a position where she was a personal assistant in a department to Clifford Collings and then she was moved to prestigious position in the legal and policy division.
