Funeral industry ombudsman to stamp out predatory pricing and corruption

The Funeral Industry Regulatory Authority has put forward a proposal lobbying to act as a ombudsman of the industry.

This comes as the regulatory body raises concerns regarding allegations of negligence, predatory pricing and poor financial practices.

Any industry which operates within a non-regulatory environment is reluctant to change.

John Roosseau, Funeral Industry Regulatory Authority

702's Azania Mosaka spoke to executive chairman of the Funeral Industry Regulatory Authority, Johan Rousseau, about corrupt practices in the industry.

He said that bereaved families are often caught in situations where they are instructed to pay extra fees to handle and store corpses, which he insists are often unethical practices.

Listen to the interview below:

We need to look at itemised billing. We can't have people being held at ransom because of competition.
