Malema: We are not going into a coalition with anyone

EFF leader Julius Malema confirmed that the party would not be entering into coalition government with the ANC or DA at a press briefing in Alexandra.

He explained that both parties were non-committal on several issues including the nationalisation of mines, land restitution, free education, nuclear energy procurement, municipal name changes and the removal of the stem from the national anthem.

We seemed not to agree with the DA. We are happy to announce that there is no coalition because we couldn't find each other.

He says that the party must earn its position in a municipality and not gain power by taking shortcuts.

"We feel very strongly that we must earn its position in the municipalities and provincial government.

Malema also said that the EFF would be voting for the IFP in hung municipalities in Kwa-Zulu Natal. He added that the party would vote for the DA in Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg and Nelson Mandela Bay.

The DA earlier confirmed that it will not be entering into coalition government with the red berets.

It is likely that we will have a minority government situation in Joburg and Tshwane.
