Should Die Stem be removed from the national anthem?

During coalitions talks between the DA and the EFF, the EFF presented a list of conditions. One of the conditions that the EFF offered to the ANC and the DA is that 'Die Stem' must be removed from the national anthem.

Mmusi Maimane's response was that singing 'Die Stem' is like asking the Jews to sing anthems about Hitler.

CapeTalk/702 Eusebius Mckaiser opened up a discussion asking whether the analogy is apt and whether 'Die Stem' should be chucked out.

A large number of listeners agreed that the Afrikaans part should be removed as it reminds black South Africans of the agony caused by apartheid.

That analogy with the German is completely apt. For me 'Die Stem' makes me feel like a Jewish person having to sing a German song, I completely go with that sentiment.

Masego

I kind of feel the same way when I sing 'Die Stem' part and I think we should re-look our national anthem and re-write that part

Sonja

I grew up Afrikaans and we sang 'Die Stem' every Friday at school, I am now 45 and it means absolutely nothing to me. It reminds me of apartheid so it should go.
